Brother Kok Chui talks on Youth Alpha

Where and who can help us to reach out to the youth of today? Do we have a tool that suits the taste of our X and Y generation? Very often we hear this, thats for the adult, very boring, old fashion, more teaching, more class. Cannot do this, cannot do that or Ya I am excited after the concert, so what next!

I went to the Alpha Youth training with a willing heart to download any information I can get hold of, a program thats design to reach the hearts of youth, i.e. by total surrender and not been pushed into it. For a long time, I have seen youth comes in and out of churches, reach out concerts, camps, retreats without a direction or someone to guide them through or simply care for them. Contrary to what adult believes, youth needs more love and care than adults, why? It is because the world confuses them with media influences, education system in school feeds them with knowledge but does not touch on moral value and beliefs. Churches more often than not, concentrate on children and adults leaving them unattended to. No need to say more, you get the point I hope.

I believe Alpha Youth is the answer (may not be the only one), it is a very good start, who knows, with undivided attention more will happen I pray. I also believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ His son, and the Holy Spirit has answered my prayer. Now hear this, the biggest challenge is ourselves, are we willing to give our younger generation some hope of success to be a contributing Christians? I am calling on all big brothers and sisters out there, Are You Willing?

For many years I ignored God. Life just drifted by – until I experienced a crisis this year. Suddenly, my life begun to flounder. I felt tremendous anguish and a sense of helplessness swept over me.

I was sinking deeper and deeper, when the Lord intervened. I was invited to a Christian cell group and was struck by a message I heard. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 55:8)

I was shocked. All those years I was doing things my way, and running from Him. It was as if the Lord spoke directly to me – that verse reached into my heart.

I decided to join a Bible study course and contacted a friend. We dropped into St. Paul’s Church, where I heard about the Alpha Course for the first time. I started the course the next night.

At my first Alpha weekend, I was still sceptical about speaking in tongues. During the prayer session, my group leaders asked if I was willing to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

At first, nothing happened. Then suddenly, I saw light and a sense of calmness swept over me. My heart swung open. I cried out, “Yes, Lord!” and let go of myself.

It was an intense feeling of joy and repentance, like a child who has been found after wandering lost in the world for a long time.

My perspective of life has been changed completely – I have found the peace of God within me.
